Hodgkinson achieved her personal best of one minute 54.61 seconds the previous season in the British capital.

Keely Hodgkinson finished her two-lap season with a triumph at the women-only Athlos event in NYC on Friday night.

{The current Olympic champion, who earned bronze at the global championships last month, dominated an outstanding victory in 1:56.53 in what was just her sixth appearance in a season impacted by a hamstring injury.

Fellow Briton and global silver winner Georgia Hunter Bell took the runner-up spot again in 1:58.33, while St Vincent's Shafiqua M. (1:58.57) claimed third.

"I haven't competed much this year so it was probably less of a struggle for me to compete and want to give it something," said Hodgkinson.

"The environment out there is crazy so it was extremely enjoyable."

The female-exclusive meet packed the stadium in its second edition, bringing a festive vibe to conventional athletics, with live music and special crowns substituting standard medals.

The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena W., who is wed to the founder of Athlos Alexis O., was on hand to award the victors with their crowns.

Previous champions took home $60,000 (£44,603) - among the biggest cash prizes in track and field.

The event also drew some of the sport's biggest names, as the Kenyan three-time Olympic gold medallist and global record breaker Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, crossing the finish line in 4:17.78.

American Brittany B., the 200m bronze winner from last year's Paris Olympics, secured the 100m and 200m double.
